William Tremblay

July 12, 1937 — July 3, 2019

On July 3rd, 2019 William “Bill” Tremblay passed, due to an illness, at Dartmouth Medical Center in Hanover, NH. He was surrounded by his family and went peacefully at the age of 81.

Bill was born in Lebanon, NH on July 12th, 1937 to Napoleon and Antoinette Rose Tremblay. He was raised in Lebanon and attended local schools, graduating from Lebanon High School with the class of 1955. After graduating, he attended Cushing Academy and later the University of New Hampshire. He married his grade school sweetheart, Elizabeth “Betty” Tremblay in 1960. The day after their wedding invitations were sent out, he got a draft notice from the US Army and spent the next two years in El Paso, Texas as a postman. After military service, Bill and Betty resided in Keene, NH and Bill started his career as a salesman for Central Paper Products Co. in Manchester, NH. After a couple years with them he accepted a job offer from White River Paper Co. in White River Junction, VT. This new position allowed him to move back to his roots in Lebanon, NH, where he raised his family for the next seventeen years.

Bill became Vice President of White River Paper Co., but he decided he wanted to run his own show. In 1984 he started the St. Johnsbury Paper Co. and moved his family to St.

Johnsbury, VT. He was a hard worker and always would take the time to personally get to know each and every one of his customers by treating them as close friends.

Bill enjoyed nature, and after he was done selling for the day he would go fly fishing to unwind. He always had his trusty canoe on top of his station wagon, in case the fishing was good. He spent many evenings on the water trying to catch that illusive brook trout. His favorite fly fishing spot was Coles Pond in Enfield, NH. He would hike a mile up the mountain, canoe and all, to get the big native brookies. Other pastimes included golfing with his family and spending time with friends and family at the camp he built on Shadow Lake in Concord, VT.

Bill was an active member and past finance director at the American Legion Post 58 in St. Johnsbury, VT. He provided countless hours of service to this post in numerous ways. He was also a member of the Elks Club, and the Knights of Columbus of St. Johnsbury, VT and Lebanon, NH.

His survivors include his wife of 59 years, Elizabeth Tremblay, and sons Thomas Tremblay and Mark Tremblay of Concord, VT. Additionally, he leaves his daughter, Marie Napolitan, and husband Thomas Napolitan of Feeding Hills, MA, and son Stephen Tremblay and wife Sonali Patel of Morgan, VT. He also leaves his four grandchildren, Taryn Tremblay and Timothy Tremblay of St. Johnsbury, and Joseph Napolitan and Jacob Napolitan of Feeding Hills, MA.

He is predeceased by his parents and brothers: Paul Tremblay of Bunkie, LA, Leo Tremblay of Lebanon, NH, and John Tremblay of Chicopee, MA.

Calling hours will be from 10:00 am to 11:30 am at Sayles Funeral Home in St. Johnsbury, VT on July 13th, 2019. The funeral service will start immediately after at noon at St. Johns the Evangelist Church in St. Johnsbury, VT. The reception after the ceremony will take place at the American Legion Post 58 in St. Johnsbury, VT.  A committal service with military honors will be held on Saturday, July 20, 2019 at the Sacred Heart Cemetery on Mascoma Street Extension in Lebanon, NH at 11 a.m.
