Stephen Robertson is a licensed funeral director and embalmer in both Vermont and New Hampshire. A native of Tennessee, Steve chose funeral service as his vocation, graduating from F.I.N.E. in 2002. He had been employed at Newton Bartlett Funeral Home in Newport until joining Sayles Funeral Home/Guibord Funeral Home in June 2015. He married Helen Lynch of Colebrook in 1990. In summer of 2016 the Robertsons moved into the living quarters above the Sayles Funeral Home with the youngest four of their eight children. They will have their 3 youngest enrolled at SJA in the fall of 2021
Owner; Funeral Director
Helen lived in Colebrook, NH from birth until she graduated high school. She received a B.S. from Boston University where she met Steve. Helen stayed at home and homeschooled her and Steve's 8 children before moving to St. Johnsbury and enrolling the 4 youngest in school so she could assist in the management of the businesses. The couple's adult children joke that Steve bought the funeral homes as a 25th anniversary gift to Helen. Helen received her Funeral Directors license in 2020.
Sayles Funeral Home
Meredith Gilbert is the office manager at the Sayles Funeral Home. She grew up in Danville, graduating high school in 1999 and obtained an Associate’s degree from Lyndon State College in 2001. Meredith joined our staff in 2014. She previously worked at Moose River Media and currently lives in Peacham with her husband and 3 children.
Guibord Funeral Home
Shelly Smith is the office administrator at Guibord Funeral Home. She grew up in St. Johnsbury and graduated from Lyndon Institute in 1989. In 1992, she married Jeff Smith and they continue to raise their family in Sutton, VT. Shelly joined our staff in 2011. Her past jobs included working in schools, where she was honored to work with families in the education field and working at a local office supply company as a transportation manager.
Mark Harpin was born and raised in Passumpsic,
VT. He graduated from St. Johnsbury
Academy in 1978. In 1983, Mark enlisted
in the Air Force and received an honorable discharge in 1988. He received another honorable discharge from
the VT Air Guard in 1995 after serving for three years. Mark joined the St. Johnsbury Fire Department
in 1988 and retired in 2016. Mark joined
our team in 2007 and continues to work at both the Sayles and Guibord Funeral
Home locations. He recently bought a
house in Waterford, VT with his wife Deb and they have two daughters and seven
Todd's funeral service started years ago as just a boy working with his father at his funeral home in Lyndonville. He and his wife Laurie live in Sheffield, VT and have four children and four grandchildren.
Nelson has worked in funeral service since 2014. He previously owned Speedwell Gulf in Lyndonville. Upon selling the business in 2009, he went into healthcare services and then into funeral service. Nelson has been a lifelong resident of this area.
Liz is the eldest daughter of Stephen and Helen Robertson. She was homeschooled through high school graduation in Newport, NH. Liz and her 2 children moved to St. Johnsbury shortly after her parents did and she joined the Guibord and Sayles team in January of 2017. In 2019, Liz took on management of the newly acquired Guest Memorials.
With Guest Memorials in the capable hands of her coworkers, Liz is now finishing her business degree, working on marketing for Caledonia Life Services, Inc., and will be starting her funeral director apprenticeship in the summer of 2022.

Forever in our hearts
In Memoriam: Thomas Barrett started a new career in funeral service in 1996 and was a licensed funeral director. Tom was a 1976 graduate of St. Johnsbury Academy and married Patti Gaskin of Lyndonville. Tom was affiliated principally at Guibord Funeral Home in Lyndonville. He lost his battle with pancreatic cancer on July 8, 2016 and is still greatly missed.
Rodney B. Sayles
Former owner, Funeral Director
Rodney Sayles has been a licensed funeral director and embalmer since 1976 and had co-owned and operated Sayles Funeral Home since 1978. He grew up on Main St. in St. Johnsbury and graduated from St. Johnsbury Academy in 1971, the University of Vermont in 1975, and the New England Institute in 1976.
Rodney turned over Guibord & Sayles Funeral Homes to Stephen and Helen in 2016.
